WHAT I LEARNED FROM MY INTERNSHIP

This is the final week of my internship, I am finalizing all my tasks for both projects. As a reminder, I am working on two projects at the same time: data collection and data processing with Project Gutenberg that I complete alone, and dashboard creation using data from British Periodicals that I do with fellow students from Vanderbilt University. Thanks to these two projects, I got the chance to work alone and to work in a team all in a single internship.

While doing two works at the same time may mean that I have to do more work, it taught me to manage my schedule well, prioritize specific work, and complete everything on time. I can say that compared to my first year of college, my time management skills have greatly improved thanks to this internship. Also, I was hoping that this experience would allow me to find my limit in terms of problem-solving, but it was not the case as I have always managed to find a solution for any of the issues that I have ever had, whether the solution from my head or from the internet. I would say that this is a good thing, I do hope I never find out my limit and always find solutions or workaround for any issue in the work I do. However, I realized how I always find solutions.

It is always said that "good programmers are just good googlers", and I confirm this as most of the time searching the right keywords get you closer to your problem, sometimes, it is not the solution that I find but I way to reach it, then I google how to complete the ways, and I end up finding the solution. I cannot say yet that I am a good google, but I can say that it has always worked whenever I tried to solve my issues with my work. my other way of solving an issue is by taking time off the work. Most of the time, I would watch a show or a movie, go eat something, or go for a walk; but I always have a notebook with me, and out of nowhere, an idea pops up in my head about a possible solution, I write it down in my notebook, then I go straight to work to try to apply it. My notebook is now full of notes unintelligible by anyone who tries to take a look at it, but I would always understand whatever note I write there whenever I look back at it. And this method has helped me find new ways to solve my issues multiple times. I have to admit that I could apply this second method because I am working remotely, but I am not sure if I would have such flexibility during on-site work.
